Nuggets Trade Rumors

Tinsley rumor sent packing by Nuggets
"Mark Warkentien was packing for a scouting trip Friday morning when he gazed at the television. "I saw on the ESPN scrawl we had traded for Jamaal Tinsley, so, at that point, I grabbed my encyclopedia to see if Dewey had defeated Truman," said the Nuggets executive, referring to the 1948 presidential winner inaccurately reported by the Chicago Tribune. The New York Post reported Friday the Nuggets would trade guard Chucky Atkins and center Steven Hunter to Indiana for the banished Tinsley, pending the point guard passing a physical. The story was refuted by Nuggets coach George Karl and Hunter's agent, Mark Bartelstein. While Warkentien would not comment to the Rocky beyond the above ..."
Tinsley to Nuggets? Possibly Monday
"Embattled point guard Jamaal Tinsley remained an Indiana Pacer on Friday, but there is a "strong possibility" he could be traded to the Denver Nuggets as early as Monday, a person familiar with the situation said. A second person confirmed trade discussions were ongoing and said the Pacers will look for another partner if it falls through. Both teams denied a report Friday morning that the deal already was done, pending Tinsley passing a physical. Nuggets coach George Karl told Denver reporters he laughed at the possibility. "I don't think there's anything to it," Karl said. "It's erroneous," Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien told ESPN.com. "Did Dewey beat ..."
Nuggets' 'deal' refuted
"The Indiana Pacers have talked to Denver, along with many teams, about trading disgraced point guard Jamaal Tinsley, but a source close to the Nuggets said Friday no deal has been made. The New York Post reported that Denver is sending guard Chucky Atkins and center Steven Hunter to the Pacers for Tinsley, but the source denied any deal has happened. Hunter's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said he wouldn't rule out a future trade, but said, "I don't think there's anything close. I think there's a lot of talk this time of year, so I don't think it's any secret that the Nuggets are looking for a point guard and the Pacers would love to get an athletic big like Steven.""
No Tinsley deal
"I've talked to a couple people - one from the Pacers camp and another from the Nuggets camp - this morning and both sides say point guard Jamaal Tinsley has not been traded to Denver for point guard Chucky Atkins and center Steven Hunter as reported by the New York Post. The deal, if true, would have pushed the Pacers roster up to 17 players. The Pacers have talked to the Nuggets, along with just about every other team in the NBA, about Tinsley, but they've yet to be able to come up with a deal."
Karl wants to keep coaching after contract
"This summer, Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O'Neal said he is retiring at the end of his contract, which has two years left in the deal. With two years remaining on his contract, Nuggets coach George Karl is making no such promises. In fact, he's saying quite the opposite. "I still think I have a love and passion for coaching, and I'm still good at it," Karl said. "I've said every year the window of getting out of it has gotten a little bigger, but the juice of staying in it is still two-to-one over getting out of it. So, personally, I think there's three things I'd like to do. I'd like to win a championship, I'd like to stay in Denver to do it, and I'd like to coach my son someday." Karl ..."
Karl to savor Iverson's potential last stand
"Allen Iverson showed up Wednesday to the Nuggets practice facility in the Pepsi Center and worked out with teammates oncourt. Coach George Karl soaked it in. It, after all, could be Iverson's last season in his stint with the Nuggets. The surefire Hall of Fame guard is in the last year of his contract, which will pay him nearly $21 million. He has said time and again that he wants to finish his career with the Nuggets. And Karl doesn't think Iverson's future with the Nuggets should be any part of the discussion going into this season. "I don't think this is a year you should even think about that stuff," Karl said Wednesday. "What you should think is delivering a winning product that has ..."
Nuggets' Iverson realizes he could be traded, too
"Since the Nuggets went into a cost-cutting mode during the summer and traded Marcus Camby to the Clippers for next to nothing, many have wondered: Could Allen Iverson be the next big-dollar player to go? Including Iverson. "It's a possibility," Iverson said in an interview Wednesday with the Rocky after working out Wednesday with teammates at the Pepsi Center. "We'll just see what happens. I wouldn't be upset either way because it's a business. . . . The one thing about a trade is when somebody trades for you, they want you. That's what you want as an athlete." With Iverson, the Nuggets' highest-paid player at $20.84 million, entering the final year of his contract, many believe he could ..."
Nuggets close to deal with Weems
"Expect a Sonny signing soon. Rookie swingman Sonny Weems said Friday he is on the verge of signing his first Nuggets contract. "It should be done this weekend. I'm flying to Texas today to meet with my agent,'' said Weems, who went to San Antonio to huddle with agent Roger Montgomery. Both Montgomery and Weems anticipate the second-round pick's deal for next season will be for the rookie minimum of $442,114. Weems said his agent has been trying to get three years of guaranteed money, but Montomery wouldn't discuss contract details other than the likely starting salary. "If I had to take a stab at it, I would probably say that, with the Nuggets cost cutting, I doubt it will be beyond ..."
Kleiza wants to stay with Nuggets
"Count Linas Kleiza as another Nuggets player surprised by the Marcus Camby trade. But count Kleiza as one who doesn't want to go anywhere else. The forward can sign a contract extension by Oct. 31 or he becomes a restricted free agent next summer. While Kleiza said there won't be any talks until after the Olympics, he reiterated Thursday he wants to re-sign. "Oh, yeah, definitely," he said after his native Lithuania beat Russia 86-79 to move to 3-0. "I love being there, so hopefully it will work out." It didn't work too well for Camby as Denver dealt him last month in a salary dump. The Clippers only gave up the possibility of having to swap 2010 second-round picks. "I think everybody was ..."
Pargo not expected to re-sign with N.O.
"It appears the Hornets might be ready to live with Mike James as the backup point guard this season, allowing Jannero Pargo to sign with another NBA team, possibly the San Antonio Spurs. Pargo's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said the Hornets "don't seem interested in signing (Pargo) at this point. I don't think he'll be back with them." Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower on Tuesday declined to comment on any on-going negotiations with free agents. Pargo, 28, opted out of his contract with the Hornets this summer to test the free-agent market. Bartelstein said he really couldn't characterize the Hornets' interest or lack thereof in retaining Pargo, who last season was Coach Byron Scott's ..."
Sources: Denver will open season at Utah
"Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony will be able to take part in opening-night festivities at the Pepsi Center. According to a number of sources within the NBA, the Nuggets will begin the 2008-09 season with two Western Conference road games, including the opener against the defending Northwest Division champion Utah Jazz. Anthony will not play against the Jazz or in the Nuggets' second game of the season as he serves a suspension for his April arrest on a drinking-and-driving charge. He pleaded guilty in June to a reduced charge of driving while ability-impaired. The complete NBA schedule will be released today. League sources confirmed Tuesday the Nuggets will play a New Year's Eve game in ..."
Signing made, but one year for minimum
"The Cavs have shown some interest in Denver Nuggets shooting guard J.R. Smith, who is seeking more than the mid-level exception of $5.6 million. If they acquire him, it would likely be in a sign-and-trade. The odds of it happening, though, aren't good. The Nuggets reportedly made the Marcus Camby trade with the Los Angeles Clippers in order to lower their luxury-tax hit and to free up more money to sign the 6-6, 220-pound Smith. If a team offered the full mid-level for all five years, one source said the Nuggets might not match the $32 million deal. But that might be more than the Cavs are willing to spend. It's a little out of character for the Cavs to be interested in Smith. He's had ..."
