Raiders told RB Jordan he's not welcome at training camp

"The agent for Raiders running back LaMont Jordan confirmed his client was told not to report to the team's opening day of training camp in Napa, even though the seven-year veteran has two years remaining on his contact.

According to the current collective bargaining agreement, an NFL player under contract must be allowed to report and participate in all offseason and training camp meetings and workouts.

Alvin Keels, who represents the running back, said he told the Raiders on Wednesday they have just more than 24 hours to release his client, trade him or permit him to report as scheduled.

The team's first official workout is at 3 p.m today. On Friday, the Raiders are scheduled to hold two practice sessions, 9-11 a.m. and 7-9 p.m.

"We're going to give them until (today) so hopefully we'll have a resolution between now and then. If not, then we'll have to force their hand and he'll report on Friday and practice," said Keels, reiterating that the Raiders cannot lock out Jordan as long as he remains on their roster.

In 2006, Steve McNair won a grievance against the Tennessee Titans after they refused to allow him to report to their facility The Titans eventually traded McNair to the Ravens.

"(The Raiders) are trying to play it their own way. We're going to try to handle this in a civilized manner," Keels said. "If we have any problems, if they don't trade him or release him by (today), then we'll report to camp Friday morning and we will file a grievance."

Raiders coach Lane Kiffin was not made available for comment. He is scheduled to meet with the media at noon today.

At this point, Keels said it doesn't appear any trade talks are in the works.

That's because Jordan's five-year contract, signed in 2005 when he was considered the top free-agent running back on the market, is so heavily backloaded that no team is willing to take on its current 2008 cap number of $6,106,240, with a base salary of $4.7 million.

Jordan's 2009 cap number is $6.4 million."
