"If Bryan McCabe has, in fact, played his last game as a Maple Leaf, don't expect him to be moved until next month. Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reported yesterday that McCabe has agreed to waive his no-movement clause and could be headed to the Florida Panthers in a trade. Whatever the case, a source close to McCabe said last night the veteran defenceman would not change addresses for at least another couple of weeks. "(Bryan) isn't going anywhere until Sept. 1, at the earliest," the source said. "That's the date (he) gets his $2-million US signing bonus from Toronto. "Why would a team deal for (him) before that and be on the hook for that extra money? They'll just wait until (he) gets paid, then see what happens."

According to the source, the Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and New York Rangers are among the teams McCabe would consider, although the Rangers might be out "because they've already signed everybody." The Tampa Bay Lightning also has shown interest in McCabe, the source said. Ian Pulver, McCabe's agent, said nothing is confirmed as of yet. "We continue to work with the Leafs to resolve this situation," Pulver said in an e-mail last night. The Leafs, under former GM John Ferguson, signed McCabe to a five-year, $28.75-million contract in June of 2006. In 2005-06, the season after the NHL lockout, McCabe had 19 goals and 68 points, both career highs. But he has struggled since, and last season became a poster boy of the Leafs' woes when he had just five goals and 18 assists in 54 games."
