"Looking to add maturity and defensive intensity on the wing, the Grizzlies will soon sign free agent Quinton Ross.

The 6-6, 193-pound swingman is expected to officially ink a minimum, non-guaranteed deal Friday. The Grizzlies open training camp Tuesday on their FedExForum practice court.

Ross, 27, played the past four seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. He dangled in free agency after the Clippers opted for more offense by acquiring Ricky Davis.

The Griz, though, aren't interested in Ross being an explosive scorer. Ross is being brought in because of his strong perimeter defense. He's effectively guarded the opponent's best shooting guard or small forward throughout a career in which he's averaged 21 minutes."
