Caps Place Winger Clymer On Waivers
The Washington Capitals placed Ben Clymer on waivers yesterday with the intention of buying out the final year of the former checking line winger's contract. Clymer, 30, spent all of last season with the team's minor league affiliate in Hershey, Pa., and is scheduled to earn $1.1 million next season. If Clymer clears waivers today -- and it's expected that he will -- the buyout will count $250,000 against the Capitals' salary cap next season and $366,667 in 2009-10. Clymer signed a three-year, $2.9 million contract with Washington in July 2006.
