The unsettled French star hoped to push through a move to Arsenal before tonight's 11pm deadline however has been told by manager Alan Pardew and the Newcastle hierarchy that he will not be allowed to leave.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger angered Pardew earlier this month by placing a £10m bid for the midfielder on the day of the club's season opening game against Manchester City which they subsequently lost 4-0.

Cabaye who is rated at over £20m by the Magpies made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in the club's 1-0 home victory over Fulham on Saturday.
