Derek Jeter hit the field running Saturday, the first time he has done so since breaking his left ankle last October.
While half the team traveled to Disney World to play the Braves, Jeter took part in running and agility drills with his teammates at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, then did some light running around the bases.
“He’s at least outside doing some running,” Joe Girardi said. “So that’s good.”
Jeter had been going through his stretch program and running indoors on a treadmill, but Saturday marked his first time running outside.
‘’It’s a natural progression, but everything went good. It went fine,’’ Jeter told The Associated Press. “It’s really nothing much different than what I was doing. I was just at a different pace than everyone else. So while they’re doing one thing, I don’t want to be doing something else.’’
