The Yankees are very interested in Carlos Beltran, but have competition. According to major league executives familiar with the process, the Texas Rangers have been doing background work on Beltran, and could become serious suitors.

Another executive pointed to mutual interest between Beltran and the Red Sox, although that does not appear to have as much early momentum as Beltran-to-Texas chatter. Baltimore is said to be considering a run at Beltran, but is not viewed in the industry as serious suitors. The Royals are also involved to some extent.
