What’s been reported for days finally became official Wednesday with the Washington Wizards announcing that they’ve signed forward Al Harrington.

Harrington’s signing addresses the Wizards need for a scoring punch off the bench.

“Al’s all-around game and reputation as a leader make him a solid fit with our team” said Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld. “He will give us additional depth and experience in the frontcourt the ability to stretch defenses and another proven veteran in the locker room.”

The Orlando Magic waived Harrington on August 2 2013. He played in just 10 games with the Magic last season where he averaged 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. The 15-year veteran missed the first 54 games of last season while recovering from surgery to repair a right knee meniscus tear and a staph infection.
