Jimmy Howard watched the NHL All-Star Game as a youngster growing up in upstate New York.

Now, Howard gets a chance to play in the NHL showcase event.

Howard and Pavel Datsyuk were among the 36 players named Thursday by the league to play in the Jan. 29 game in Ottawa, Ontario.

Two teams will be selected by captains (yet to be determined) in the Fantasy Draft on Jan. 26.

This will be Howard's first appearance in the All-Star Game and Datsyuk's third.

"It's an honor," Howard said of being named to the All-Star Game.
