Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom is entering the final season of a $24 million, four-year contract and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. There have been no talks about an extension.
Backstrom isn't concerned.
"Part of the game," the 34-year-old Finn said recently. "That's how it's been for me in the past, too. The older you get, you don't worry about next year. You pretty much worry about the next day."
Backstrom intends to play next season, too.
"For sure, I love the game," he said.
"Time will tell, but I love it here," Backstrom said. "I've been fortunate to be here. It's just not about the game -- it's the cities and the state, and it feels like home. So for sure I'd stay here. It's really good to be here."
Will Minnesota Wild, Niklas Backstrom part after 2013 season?
