Matt Wieters started Wednesday night's game as the designated hitter. He began the game in a 1-for-23 slump and ended the first inning with a strike out.

"It's something you can't really worry about. It's just when you are feeling good to keep that streak going on the hot side as long as you can," Wieters said.

"Try and turn it around when you're not feeling good. It's been a year of trying to find a good stroke and keep it for the whole year. Hopefully, it comes soon."

Orioles' hitters have been extremely streaky. Mark Reynolds began the game batting .206, J.J. Hardy. 218, and Chris Davis, who wasn't in the starting lineup, has struck out his last six at-bats.

"You try to stay away from emotional at-bats up here," manager Buck Showalter said.
