The White Sox and left-hander Scott Downs have agreed to a one-year contract worth $4M or so with a vesting option for 2015, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com has confirmed. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says the vesting option could raise the total value to $8 million.

Downs, 37, had a 2.49 ERA (155 ERA+) and a 1.48 WHIP in 43 1/3 innings for the Angels and Braves in 2013. The veteran southpaw held left-handed batters to a .259/.333/.296 (98 OPS+) batting line with a 2.88 K/BB in 90 plate appearances.
