The Jets-Patriots rivalry got a little kick in the pants this offseason when new Browns coach Mike Pettine -- Rex Ryan's former defensive coordinator in New York -- made statements indicating he believed the Patriots, at some point, acquired the Jets playbook.

Pettine said Rex gave the books out like "candy" but Wes Welker said Friday morning on CBS Boston's "Toucher and Rich" the Pats never got one.

“Not that I know of. Every little bit helps, but at the same time I don't know," Welker said. "It might [help]. Not that I know of."

Welker -- or at least Welker's wedding -- was actually the impetus for this story. Pettine claims Tom Brady bragged to Jets coach (and college roommate of Welker) Mike Smith about the Pats owning the playbook.

Brady's old receiver and good friend says it was "just playing mind games."
