The Rangers and Colorado, a pair of first-place clubs, share the major league lead for outs on the bases.

Each team has run into 15 outs on the bases. The Rangers caught the Rockies during the weekend, giving up eight outs while splitting a four-game series at Minnesota.

Manager Ron Washington said he considered only one of the outs against the Twins as a mistake. In the third inning on Sunday, Mitch Moreland initially believed his base hit had gone past center fielder Aaron Hicks and headed for what would have been a double. When Moreland realized Hicks had cut off the ball, he could not get back to first ahead of the throw.

“I’m going to take aggressive outs,” Washington said. “He made a mistake there, but if you play the game long enough, you’re going to make mistakes.”

It was Moreland’s first out on the bases this season. Nelson Cruz leads the club with four outs on the bases.
