Vidal Nuno went an entire fortnight without pitching in a game. But in his first big-league start, he helped the Yankees salvage a split doubleheader with a 7-0 victory over the Indians.

Nuno threw five scoreless innings to pick up the win. He made his big-league debut on April 29. He had idled ever since. The Yankees called upon him to pick up their staff at the end of this road trip.

The Indians defense combusted to the Yankees benefit in the first. Jayson Nix singled and Robinson Cano chopped an infield single. Carlos Santana, a catcher who plays first base part-time, misplayed a throw to the bag. Nix took third. He scored on a grounder struck by Vernon Wells. Cleveland couldn’t turn a double play.
