It had been more than 16 months since Victor Martinez had last faced live pitching in a game situation.
He said Friday afternoon that it felt like the first time.
"I don't know how to explain it," Martinez said. "It was like I was just called up to the big leagues all over again."
Martinez went 0-for-2 and was hit by a pitch Friday afternoon for the Detroit Tigers in a 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the Grapefruit League opener for both teams. It marked the first time Martinez batted in a game since Oct. 11, 2011, when he went 3-for-4 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.
