Victor Cruz won’t even try to dance around it. The Giants need a victory on Sunday.

Promoting his new partnership with McDonald’s on Tuesday as the spokesman for their new Mighty Wings item Cruz said “I think we have to win (Sunday). Every game’s a must-win for us regardless of who we’re playing home or away every game’s a must-win for us and we have to do that. We’re excited for the opportunity.”

With the Giants (0-2) preparing to face the Panthers (0-2) in Charlotte Cruz said he felt “a little bit” of the sense of urgency that was all the talk throughout the team on Monday noting that a victory will alleviate the mounting pressure.

“I think you just want to get that first win under your belt” he said. “Once you get that first one you feel like the rest will kind of flow and (you) kind of get into a groove a little bit. We understand we just have to get that first win under our belt and we’ll go from there. It’s always a sense of urgency to win a ballgame whether you’re 2-0 or 0-2 so we’re just looking forward to Week 3 and we’ll go from there.”

Many will look back to 2007 when Big Blue endured a similar 0-2 start and went on to capture the Lombardi Trophy as a sign that the Giants can still achieve their dream of playing a home Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium in February. Former Giant Antonio Pierce doesn’t think the two squads can be compared but Cruz who was in college during that Super Bowl run in the ’07 season says it is a source of motivation.

“Even if you weren’t a part of that team it’s definitely motivation to see how they battled back from that and won the Super Bowl” he said. “We definitely use that as motivation but we have to write our own story and understand how we want this season to go for ourselves. So we’re taking it one game at a time but ’07 will definitely be motivation for the rest of this season moving forward.”
