Troy Brouwer is sick and was told to take the morning off ahead of the Capitals’ game against the Boston Bruins at Verizon Center.
It’s possible Brouwer will be ready to suit up against the Bruins, but if not the Capitals could always bring Wojtek Wolski, who was a healthy scratch in Winnipeg, back into the lineup. Wolski did not take part in the scratches skate Tuesday morning but that’s likely a precaution in case Brouwer isn’t well enough to play.
Every defensemen except for Mike Green (groin) is on the ice this morning, including recent signee and call up Steve Oleksy, who is slated to make his NHL debut against the Bruins.
Oleksy signed a three-year, two-way contract with the Capitals Monday worth $1.6 million at the NHL level and it’s tough to imagine they would sign him to that deal if they didn’t intend to play him against the Bruins. Whether Oates will go with the usual six defensemen or perhaps use seven is uncertain.
Injured center Marcus Johansson and defensemen Jack Hillen, both out with what the team describes as an upper-body injury, are both on the ice for the morning skate as well.
Here’s what the forward lines looked like this morning:
