Jay Bruce arrived in camp Monday – 15 pounds lighter than he finished the season.

"I just changed my diet," he said. "It's not a big deal. I feel a little better. I'm as strong as always. But 10, 15 pounds off your joints over the course of the season helps you stay healthy. That's my goal."

Bruce lost all the weight after Redsfest. He hopes it allows him to use his speed more. He's an above average runner, but he hasn't been effective as a base stealer. He stole eight bases in 15 attempts last year.

Bruce made the drive from Houston straight through to Goodyear.

"We left at 5:15 in the morning and got here at 10 at night," he said. "I'm glad to be here. It looks like a basketball team."
