Left-hander Nick Hagadone was officially optioned to Class AAA Columbus on Wednesday to make room for Trevor Bauer, who started against the Phillies later that night.
It was the second time Hagadone has been optioned this season. He has pitched well for the Tribe, striking out eight and walking six in 7 1/3 innings. He doesn't have a record, but owns a 2.45 ERA.
The opposition is hitting .091 against the hard-throwing Hagadone.
"We didn't want to send Nick down," said manager Terry Francona. "We had a short visit with him after the game on Tuesday to explain to him that unfortunately this is what we have to do.
"We don't want him to be in Triple-A. It wasn't because of anything he did. He was disappointed, but I think he understood."
