The basketball career of Tracy McGrady was defined by the fact he could never win a title. He was a superstar in his day but he failed to really develop into the superstar people thought he’d become. Instead, McGrady’s career fizzled out into making him nothing more than a bench player, but that apparently hasn’t killed his competitive spirit.

According to ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy, McGrady is attempting a sports comeback — as a pitcher in the independent baseball league.

Van Gundy made the remarks during Friday night’s game between the Brooklyn Nets and Oklahoma City Thunder.

“I think he’s going to play independent league baseball as a pitcher this year. I’m being serious. I’ve heard from sources in Houston — seriously — that he’s throwing over 90 miles per hour.”
