Following the sale of Caulker Spurs currently only have one fit centre-back. Jan Vertonghen recently picked up a knock in a friendly and Younes Kaboul is still on the way back from a long-term injury.

Michael Dawson Spurs' club captain is the only centre-back not currently struggling with injury.

Papadopoulos joined Schalke from Olympiakos for £2 million in June 2010 and has made over 90 appearances for the German club scoring 7 goals.

He's only 21 and already has 13 caps for Greece. He has scored four goals for his country. He was an integral part of the Greece squad that made it to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012.

The Greek defender has the physicality to be a star in the Premier League - he is tall at 6ft strong on the ball and great in the air.

Papadopoulos is also a fast defender meaning he could fit into Spurs head coach Andre Villas Boas' high line defensive system. AVB plays an intense pressing game and Papadopoulos has all the tools in his locker to succeed in this system.

The Greek defender also has Champions League experience which he has gathered from his time at Schalke and Olympiakos - this could be key to help Spurs' Champions League push next.
