Free agent outfielder Torii Hunter is expected to make a decision on his future team soon, and CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler reports that the Rangers are among the leaders for his services.

Knobler says the Rangers are on a list of teams interested in the 37-year-old Hunter that also includes the Tigers, Braves, Phillies, and others. As of now, Knobler writes, "the Tigers seem to be the front-runners, with the Rangers just behind them."

Hunter could fill a need for the Rangers if OF Josh Hamilton signs elsewhere in free agency. There is no apparent time table on Hamilton's decision, but Rangers president and CEO Nolan Ryan told reporters last week that the team will not wait on Hamilton to pounce if another opportunity arose in free agency.

"With Josh, you don't know where that's going to go," Ryan said. "I don't think you can sit around and say `We have to see what happens with Josh.' We have to be out there seeing what opportunities there to improve to ballclub."
