Colour Jonathan Toews highly disappointed.
The Blackhawks star won't get to play the Winnipeg Jets in his hometown in the inaugural season of their rebirth — and he makes no bones about it.
"It kind of sucks," Toews told reporters. "It does suck. Write that down."
He was asked in Winnipeg about the prospect of facing the Jets on Oct. 13 at Chicago's United Center in what will be the second game for the Jets and third for the Blackhawks.
"It might be a little more on my mind if we were in Winnipeg," said Toews, who will be front and centre this week at the Canadian Tour's The Players Cup at Pine Ridge Golf Club.
"There are some games here and there that you might have marked on your calendar. It's the first time getting to play the Winnipeg Jets, so you definitely want to show up for that one."
The St. Vital product took part in a question-and-answer period on Monday morning at Pine Ridge before officially kicking off the Jonathan Toews Kids Golf Classic, which featured 36 teams made up of two children and two adults.
"There were a couple of loaded questions out there," Toews said. "Tougher than you guys (in the media) sometimes and that's saying something."
Now that the NHL title reign is officially over, Toews can't wait to resume the chase for his second Stanley Cup.
After enduring a first-round exit at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks in a riveting seven-game series, he admitted that watching the Boston Bruins raise the Stanley Cup brought back a flood of memories.
