The Reds may want to bubble wrap Edinson Volquez and Travis Wood until Opening Day. Being in the Reds rotation is suddenly a hazardous occupation.
Five days after Johnny Cueto was sidelined by shoulder inflammation and a day after Homer Bailey was put on the shelf with shoulder impingement, Bronson Arroyo found out he has mononucleosis.
"What can you do?" Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "Everybody is doom and gloom. I'm not like that. I was taught you try to find a solution versus the sky is falling and chicken little. You try to figure out a solution. The problem is going to be there.
"The problem is there. I hate it. But it's there. It's like having a flat tire. You going sit there and cry or do you change the tire?"
Arroyo, unlike Bailey and Cueto, will remain in the rotation.
