Outfielder Avisail Garcia was recalled today by the Detroit Tigers, who placed starting centerfielder Austin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list with a pulled right hamstring.

Austin Jackson did not play in Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Indians. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said before the game that Jackson was sitting out as a precaution.

Garcia, 21, was hitting .432 (16-for-37) with one home run and four RBIs in eight games at Triple-A Toledo. He also hit .417 with two triples and one home run in six games at Class A Lakeland while on an injury-rehabilitation assignment.

Garcia suffered a right heel contusion while trying to beat out a grounder in a spring training game.

Garcia hit .319 with no home runs and three RBIs in 23 regular-season games for the Tigers last season. He also hit .261 with four RBIs in 12 postseason games.
