Acknowledging Omar Infante's injury was more serious than previously thought, the Tigers on Tuesday placed their second baseman on the 15-day disabled list and called up infielder Hernan Perez from Double A Erie to replace him.

Infante's disabled-list state is retroactive to July 4. It qualifies him to return to the team following next week's All-Star break.

He was injured in last Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays when he was crushed by a controversial slide by Toronto's Colby Rasmus.

Perez, 22, has been playing very well as a shortstop and second baseman at Erie, where he was hitting .300.
