Outfielder Austin Jackson could be on his way back to the Tigers lineup within a few days.

The Tigers announced before Wednesday night's game against the Indians that Jackson would begin a rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Jackson was on the 15-day disabled list because of an abdominal strain. Quintin Berry replaced Jackson in center field.

Jackson stretched and took part in batting practice Wednesday and was encouraged by his progress.

He last played May 16 and is batting .331 with 10 doubles, five home runs and 17 RBI in 36 games.
