Stoke want to sign Ali Al-Habsi as they prepare for life without Asmir Begovic.

Begovic looks set to leave Stoke with Manchester United and Chelsea interested in the 28-year-old keeper.

England keeper Jack Butland will step up and become the club’s No 1 keeper, but Mark Hughes wants to sign Al-Habsi as a back-up.

Al-Habsi is a free agent after leaving Wigan and last week trained with Reading, who have made the 33-year-old an offer and would like him to join the club’s tour of Thailand.

However, Stoke have now also shown an interest in the keeper.
