After playing 34:59 in Saturday's 4-2 win over Detroit, Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson joked that he fell short of his goal. "One more second," he said, grinning.
Given the Blue Jackets' current plight on the blue line, Johnson might be playing beyond "sitcom" minutes for the forseeable future.
Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson said defensemen James Wisniewski (possible concussion, leg/back injuries), Nikita Nikitin (lower body) and Adrian Aucoin (lower body), would all be out of the lineup on Tuesday when the Blue Jackets host the defending Stanley Cup-champion Los Angeles Kings in Nationwide Arena. They could miss a few games beyond Tuesday, too, Howson said.
Thus, the Blue Jackets will recall a defenseman from AHL Springfield later today so they can join practice on Monday. Howson said the hockey operations department was still discussing which player to recall. Either way, it will put three Falcons defensemen in the lineup, joining Tim Erixon and David Savard.
The likely candidates are Nick Holden, Dalton Prout and Cody Goloubef, all excelling with Springfield, which is tied for the best record in the AHL. (Check back with Puck-rakers later today for an update.)
