When veteran safety George Wilson was released from the Buffalo Bills earlier this week, Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray immediately went to bat for him.

Gray served as defensive coordinator in Buffalo when Wilson arrived with the team in 2005. Wilson met with Gray during his visit to Baptist Sports Park earlier this week, along with senior assistant Gregg Williams and head coach Mike Munchak.

“Jerry had an opportunity to see me grind and work day in and day out and he has followed my career,’’ said Wilson, a five-time captain in Buffalo who has 412 tackles and 12 tackles during his career.

“He said as soon as he saw me hit the waiver wire he went right to the main man and requested that they at least take a look at me. I had a great visit with everybody in Tennessee, and an opportunity to sit down with Gregg Williams and talk about his vision for the Tennessee Titans defense next season and what his mind-set was. And I had a great sit down with Coach Munchak and him giving me an expectation of me would be and what type of environment and culture he tries to set around the facility. Everything was definitely very positive.”
