Chris Johnson will make $10 million in 2013.
His new teammate with the Titans, fellow running back Shonn Greene, is scheduled to make $10 million over the next three seasons.
Those figures make it clear which player is the featured back, just in case there was ever any doubt after Greene signed on Wednesday.
“I know this is C.J’s backfield,” said Greene, who spent the past four seasons with the Jets. “I am just here willing to help this team get wins. I am completely fine with that.”
The Titans clearly want more out of their backfield, however. Gone are the days when Johnson shared carries with a younger player trying to establish himself in the NFL.
Greene is a proven veteran, a player whose bruising style should complement the quicker and more elusive Johnson.
Just don’t ask how the Titans plan to divide the carries. Johnson rushed for 1,243 yards last season, while Greene rushed for 1,063. Both players had 276 attempts.
