With more catchers coming off the market, the Rangers are looking at Kurt Suzuki to partner with Geovany Soto behind the plate for them in 2014.

Suzuki was the Athletics starting catcher from 2008-12 before being traded to the Nationals. The Athletics then acquired him on Aug 23, this past season. Suzuki is considered an excellent defensive catcher who handles pitchers well. He also has occasional power at the plate. He became a free agent after the Athletics declined a club option and Texas could be his next stop.

The Rangers re-signed Soto to be their No. 1 catcher but are still in the market for a backup. Catchers appear to be going fast as A.J. Pierzynski is headed to the Red Sox and the Blue Jays have signed Dioner Navarro. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is looking at a multi-year deal, possibly with the Marlins.
