Stu Jackson, the NBA’s former executive vice president of basketball operations, will interview for the Detroit Pistons’ vacant general manger post, a league source informed CSNNW.com.

Jackson, 58, is scheduled to have his interview with Stan Van Gundy, the team’s newest head coach and president of basketball operations, shortly after the Memorial Day Weekend.

Those plugged in on the Detroit situation also believe Van Gundy will reach out to the Spurs assistant General Manager Scott Layden, if he hasn’t already done so. Otis Smith is still considered the favorite to land the Detroit role, we’re told.

Prior to Jackson’s league office position, the well-respected basketball aficionado served as the head coach of the New York Knicks and the Vancouver Grizzlies in the early to late ‘90s. In between those NBA coaching stints, he spent two seasons as the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers.
