Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that defenseman Aaron Rome has been activated from injured reserve.

Rome, 30, is in his second season with the Dallas Stars, posting five assists and 18 penalty minutes in 30 career games with the team. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound defenseman from Nesbitt, Man., was Los Angeles’ fourth-round selection (104th overall) in the 2002 NHL Draft and was signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 1, 2012.



The team also announced that it has placed defenseman Sergei Gonchar on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 21 when he suffered concussion-like symptoms.



Gonchar, 39, leads all Stars defensemen with 12 points (0-12=12) in 35 games this season. The Chelyabinsk, Russia, native is in his 19th NHL season, and is the all-time Russian points leader among defensemen with 787 points (217-570=787) in 1,212 career NHL games. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman was originally selected as the 14th overall pick in the 1992 NHL Draft and was signed by Dallas on June 10, 2013.
