Mark Sanchez may no longer be “The Sanchise,” but the fifth-year quarterback has no plans to ask the Jets to cut the cord. The Daily News has learned that Sanchez has not requested to be released or traded in the wake of Gang Green’s decision to draft his presumptive replacement, Geno Smith, in the second round last Friday.

The Jets have given Sanchez no indication that they are attempting to trade him or contemplating releasing him, according to a source.

Sanchez is expected to be a part of the Jets’ offseason quarterback competition. New general manager John Idzik reiterated on Friday night after he selected Smith with the No. 39 overall pick that he expects Sanchez to “compete” like the other quarterbacks. Rex Ryan reiterated on NFL Network Saturday night that Sanchez will get the first snap when off-season field work begins on Monday for the start of the second phase of the offseason program.

“We will be confident at that quarterback position,” Ryan said after the draft. “I don’t think there is any doubt about it. I have confidence in Mark Sanchez. I have confidence in all the guys and that’s just the way it is. That’s the truth. I’ve said it before, we’ve won lots of games with Mark Sanchez at quarterback. In fact, I think our football team, since I’ve been here as a head coach, has actually won more playoff games than the New England Patriots. I’m just throwing that out there. It feels like it gets lost.”

“I am also am a big believer in the competition part,” Ryan added. “Competition brings the best out of everybody and I’m sure it will bring the best out of several players.”

The Jets have six quarterbacks on their roster, but will part ways with a couple of them in the coming days/weeks. Tim Tebow isn’t expected to be a part of the competition. A team official told the News over the weekend that Tebow was “probably gone” soon.

Sanchez, who has a $8.25 million guaranteed base salary, is expected to compete with veteran David Garrard, who was signed in the offseason, and Smith. Greg McElroy and Matt Simms are also on the roster.
