The Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday signed star outfielder Mike Trout to a one-year contract worth $1 million, a source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

It's the largest pre-arbitration contract for a player surpassing the $900,000 the Philadelphia Phillies gave to Ryan Howard in 2007. Negotiations continue on multiyear contract with one of baseball's best young players.

The Los Angeles Times earlier reported the signing.

Yahoo! Sports previously reported the Angels and Trout were discussing a six-year contract worth approximately $150 million.
