The Grizzlies looked a little lethargic to start the second game of a road back-to-back as a sharp-executing Kings lineup pulled out to an early 14-8 lead before the Grizzlies started grinding and pulled to 16-16 at the 4:34 mark. The Grizzlies and Kinds traded buckets for the rest of the quarter, the Grizzlies finishing ahead 25-24.
First Quarter Highlight: Grizzlies shooting 56%
First Quarter Grinder: Marc Gasol (8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 4-6 FG)
The Grizzlies pushed out to a pair of 5 point leads at 35-30 and 39-34 and 6 point lead at 46-50, but the second quarter was a continuation of the sluggish first and ended with the Grizzlies up 2, 48-46. No Grizzlies finished the half in double digits, while both Isaiah Thomas and Rudy Gay had 12 at the half for the Kings.
Second Quarter Highlight: Mike Conley with a gorgeous whirling dervish of a semi-hook in traffic.
First Half Grinder: Mike Conley (7 points, 1 rebound, 5 assists)
It continued to be a back-and-forth scuffle through the third, as Tayshaun Prince and the Grizzlies struggled to contain Rudy Gay (19 points through 3), but the Kings struggled equally to contain Michael Conley, jr. Marc Gasol spent a fair amount of time at about the 3 minute mark feeling around his left knee and making Griz Nation nervous. The lead changed hands a few times, but the Grizzlies mostly maintained a slim lead throughout and finished the quarter up 6, 69-63.
