Wednesday's practice may not have been on the Sharks monthly calendar, but it was added long before the Tuesday night clunker in Columbus.

And, no, it didn't turn into a grueling, no-puck practice where players were gassed at the end. Not that the thought of a bag skate didn't cross coach Todd McLellan's mind.

"There's a tendency to get emotional and come in here and work them into the ground because they didn't work real hard last night," McLellan said, later calling that a natural instinct. "But that's not going to do us any good tomorrow or for the rest of the road trip or the season. You have to do what's right to give your team a chance to win the next day."

McLellan did shake the lines up after that disappointing 4-0 loss to the Blue Jackets, though he could still decide to go back to the way things were by game time Thursday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

Here's how McLellan put the top three lines together at today's practice: Patrick Marleau, Logan Couture and Brent Burns on one line; Raffi Torres, Joe Thornton and Tommy Wingels on the second; James Sheppard, Joe Pavelski and Marty Havlat on the third.

TJ Galiardi is missing from those lines only because he had a maintenance day. He may be missing Thursday night as well because McLellan noted Galiardi is dealing with some soreness and isn't a sure thing.

As for the new lines, here's what McLellan had to say while trying to remain non-committal.
