Amid the ashes of another demoralizing setback Wednesday, there were smoking embers and a spark of encouragement for the Vancouver Canucks, who have looked confused and even content in dropping four of their last five games.

In an effort to ignite the first line by promoting the struggling Mason Raymond with the shockingly silent Henrik and Daniel Sedin — the weird new math of zero, plus zero, plus zero adding up to something — the Canucks may have found a third line. At least for now. Next week, who knows?

Alex Burrows played better in the first dozen minutes with a goal and an assist during a 5-4 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes than he has in the last dozen games.
