As Bruce Bochy sent another stern message to Pablo Sandoval about his weight, the Panda said he has heard his manager loud and clear.
"What happens when you've got a great manager is you need advice, to work hard and be a better player," Sandoval said after playing his first game in more than five weeks Saturday. "He told me to work hard. 'You've got talent. You've got to show what you've got.'
"They're the bosses. They make the decisions. If they say what they want me to do, I've got to get in shape."
That's all well and good, Bochy said, but, "There comes a time when you don't want to hear it. You need action. It's got to happen now. ... It's got to be consistent. It can't be three or four days. It's got to be for the season. He knows what he needs to do. He's a vital part of the team."
Sandoval moved well chasing a foul ball toward the Giants' bullpen in the first inning and scoring from second on an Angel Pagan double in the seventh.
