The Giants sent Pablo Sandoval on a brief rehab assignment to Class A San Jose, hoping he would get enough swings at the plate and enough grounders at third to show he was ready to return to the majors.

He got the swings.

"Zero groundballs, man, in three days," Sandoval said. "I was waiting for one."
