New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis sat down with a small media gathering this morning to review a 2012 season he described as "beyond disappointing" and discuss some of the current issues facing the team. Colleague Larry Holder will have a more complete breakdown this afternoon, but I wanted to weigh in with some of the highlights.
No coaching changes are imminent. Loomis said the Saints have offered new deals to all of the assistants who aren't currently under contract, and some have already re-signed. He didn't get into specifics, though it has been reported that offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer are among those free to leave if they choose. Loomis said, "The majority of our coaches are under contract for next year," and said he expects they all will return. The team has not reached out to any outside candidates for interviews.
Any other changes would be made by Coach Sean Payton when he returns from his suspension - currently scheduled to end the day after the Super Bowl. Said Loomis: "Ultimately that's Sean's decision. I've always given him the opportunity to decide the makeup of his staff."
