The Sabres have called a news conference for 10:30 this morning to make a "major" announcement, with multiple reports saying they will name a president of hockey operations. Bob McKenzie of TSN says it will be Sabres legend Pat LaFontaine.

Until this point, General Manager Darcy Regier has been the head of the hockey department. Team President Ted Black made it clear during the spring at an end-of-season news conference that he and Regier are peers.

A new face would presumably take a look at Regier and coach Ron Rolston, who have put together a 4-15-1 team
