Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring problem following Saturday’s game, and the Nationals will call up top prospect Anthony Rendon to start in his place.

Manager Davey Johnson announced the move following the Nationals’ 7-6 win over the New York Mets.

Zimmerman had been struggling with hamstring problems since at least Monday. He left Wednesday’s game early and did not play Friday or Saturday. He was sent for an MRI earlier Saturday.

Johnson said before the game the issue affects Zimmerman not only on the basepaths and in the field, but in the batter’s box as he appears reticent to land on the leg with his full strength when he is hitting.
