Injuries continue to mount for the Tampa Bay Lightning with LW Ryan Malone the latest to feel the pain.

Malone did not play Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs because of a lower-body injury suffered during Monday's practice. The injury occurred when he collided with teammate Nate Thompson. While the play looked innocent, it left Malone slamming his stick against the bench.

Lightning coach Guy Boucher was surprised to find out Malone would not be able to play.

"Again with the injuries,'' Boucher said. "Happy New Year! It's been that way since Day One this year, so we are not going to cry about it. We are going to move forward and continue to find ways like we've been doing.''
