Although the Padres starting pitching rotation is far from being set, it’s not for the lack of candidates

Nineteen of the 37 pitchers in the Padres spring training camp are starters, although not all are immediate candidates for spots in the rotation.

A breakdown of the candidates by their proximity to being in the Padres Opening Day rotation:

In barring unforeseen change: Clayton Richard, Edison Volquez.

Inside track: Jason Marquis, Casey Kelly, Eric Stults.

Starters/relievers: Anthony Bass, Tyson Ross.

Veteran minor league free agents:Freddy Garcia, Sean O’Sullivan, Thad Weber.
