Rookie forward Boone Jenner did more in training camp than make the Blue Jackets roster. The 20-year-old earned a spot on the No. 1 line.

In announcing eight roster cuts yesterday coach Todd Richards also said that Jenner will open the season on a line with center Brandon Dubinsky and right wing Marian Gaborik.

The Blue Jackets play the Calgary Flames on Friday at Nationwide Arena.

“Based on what they were able to do and how they were able to play as a group I would be foolish to try and experiment with (Jenner) now somewhere else” Richards said “just because they worked so well together.”

The eight players cut were forwards Michael Chaput Ryan Craig and Jack Skille defensemen Cody Goloubef Ilari Melart and Will Weber and goaltenders Mike McKenna and Jeremy Smith.

Craig Skille Goloubef McKenna and Smith were placed on waivers. If they aren’t claimed by another NHL club by noon today they will be assigned to minor-league Springfield.
