Robinson Cano could not hide his smile. He beamed as he entered the Yankees dugout just moments after launching a game-winning solo home run in the ninth inning of a 5-4 victory over Baltimore Wednesday.

Cano punished reliever Tommy Hunter for a hanging changeup. A couple minutes later Curtis Granderson tripled and came around to score an insurance run. They needed that run because Mariano Rivera gave one back in the ninth.

On the day they lost Derek Jeter for the rest of the season the Yankees (78-68) did not lose ground in the standings.

With the victory over their division rivals the Yankees continue to push forward in the hunt for the American League’s second Wild Card. They have a chance to take the series on Thursday afternoon.
